বিস্তারিত
Sodium Hydrosulfite, also commonly known as Sodium Hydrosulphite or Sodium Dithionite, is a powerful industrial reducing agent widely used in textile processing, dyeing, printing, bleaching, pulp and paper, and various chemical-processing applications. Its chemical formula is Na₂S₂O₄.
In the textile and dyeing industry, Sodium Hydrosulfite is particularly important for vat dyeing and reduction processes. It converts certain insoluble dyes into their soluble reduced forms, allowing the dye to penetrate textile fibers effectively. It is extensively associated with indigo dyeing, including denim-processing applications. After dyeing, oxidation converts the dye back into its insoluble colored form within the fiber.
Sodium Hydrosulfite is also used as a reducing bleaching agent. Unlike oxidizing bleaches, it works through chemical reduction and can help remove unwanted coloration from textile materials and certain industrial products. This makes it useful in textile bleaching, color stripping, corrective dyeing, and related processing operations.
In the pulp and paper industry, it can be used for reductive bleaching and brightness improvement. It also has applications in certain chemical manufacturing and industrial treatment processes where a strong reducing environment is required.
The product is sensitive to moisture, heat and incompatible chemicals. Contact with moisture can accelerate decomposition, so appropriate sealed storage and careful industrial handling are important. The specific product shown is labeled Class 4.2 and UN 1384, so its manufacturer's SDS and applicable transport/storage requirements should always be followed.
